Waxing Nostalgic
As I have been going through this process of rethinking my entire blog architecture, I have had a chance to catch up on some of the latest and greatest that web technology has to offer.
It makes me think of when XML really started coming onto the scene, in 1999, and there were all of these prophesies about how it would change the world.
At the time, I was working for yack, and they were using XML for their server side apps, and it looked like a great way to standardize a few things, but overall, it didn’t seem like something that would every really effect the user side of things.
Well, here we are, 5 years later, and I am amazed at how pervasive XML is in one form or another, and how much it has improved the user experience overall.
With RSS, OPML, FOAF, and all of the other incredible things that have changed the blogsphere from it’s early days, of loosely connected web pages that are updated regularly, to a truly interactive, interconnected community, that although it has allot of moving parts, and can be difficult to set up, really offers a unique user experience.
Well, I have had some setbacks, and I have hit some bumps along the way, but I am really glad that I was able to go through all the different options for making the new blogs, from roll-your-own, to Blosxom, and finally to a Movable Type based system.
I feel like I have learned allot more about how the real nitty-gritty of the new, and much improved blogsphere works, and all the awesomeness it has to offer.
Well, that is about it for me tonight, I have been cracking for 16 hours or so pretty much nonstop and I am d-u-n tired.
I am going to have to take a break for a few days from the great blog build-out, but I am guessing that in the next week or so, this journal will be remotely updated from a Movable Type based system hosted on my site.
Sweet.
Have a good night all.
