Blossoming Democracy || How I Learned To Run An Election.
I saw a bizarre headline on CNN.com
Headline: Democracy finds hope in Iraqi town
With the following excerpt.
“The concept of democracy appears to have taken root in the dusty town of Karma, a predominantly Sunni community just north of Falluja — the city at the center of fierce fighting last year. Although most say they don’t know who the candidates are or where to go to vote, they say they will vote come January 30 — for a variety of candidates for a variety of reasons.”

It’s interesting to note also that there is going to be a 24 hour ban on DRIVING on Election Day and a curfew in effect.
In the spirit of being an optimist (of which I am not), the Iraqi Transportation Ministry has said they will arrange transportation for people who need it.
In the spirit of being a realist, there are millions of people in Iraq who don’t know who they are voting for, don’t know where they are supposed to go to vote, can’t drive to the polling places, and will be arrested if they are out past dark (like say, walking home from a polling place as they can’t drive).
Sounds like a blossoming democracy to me.
In other news, Maj. Cathy Kaus, 47, of Dayton, said she plans to report for duty Tuesday at Fort Sill, Okla. Kaus said she is not sure what tasks she will be assigned.
Pretty amazing that we have prosecuted someone for scrounging for scrap medal to serve as armor, while the fuckers who put them in the position of going to war without adequate armaments are elected to another fucking term.
